Chatiyaan Di Ladi

In association with the Department of Dogri, University of Jammu, the Trust organised a one-day seminar, titled ‘Chatiyaan Di Ladi’ on September 9, 2016, at Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu to highlight the works and contribution of the celebrated Dogri writer and awarded scholarships to one male and female student, who had topped in MA Dogri.

Toppers of MA Dogri, Mr Rajeet Kumar and Ms Shiwali Choudhary were the first respective recipients of ‘Kunwar Viyogi Merit Scholarship’ and ‘Prem Jamwal Kunwar Viyogi Merit Scholarship’. They were both awarded cash prize of Rs 10,000 each and a memento.

Kunwar Viyogi’s award winning book ‘Ghar’, translated in Hindi by eminent Dogri writer Shri Chhatrapal and published by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi was also unveiled, while life and works of the author, beautifully narrated from his award-winning book ‘Ghar’ was also screened during the event. A paper reading session was conducted by eminent Dogri personalities-Dr Om Goswami and Chhatrapal Saraf.

Prem Prayas: Charity Art Exhibition

Prem Prayas “Charity Art Exhibition” was held in the honour of Kunwar Viyogi’s vision and dedicated to his wife Prem Jamwal, his constant muse and source of inspiration.

The endeavour was an attempt to inspire and engage the wider community by initiating a dialogue between artists and rest of the world through innovative shows. A select group of 30 artists of Duggerland participated in the event that showcased the cultural ethos and works of Duggar artists.

Launched on September 9, 2016 in collaboration with Lotsava Rinchen Bzangpo Art Gallery, Zorawar Singh Auditorium, Jammu University, the Art Exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Jatinder Singh, MoS for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and PMO, along with Vice Chancellor, Jammu University Mr. RD Sharma and renowned artist Mr. Suman Gupta. The exhibition was curated by sculptor Joy Sharma and artist Rashmi Jamwal.

Kunwar Viyogi Sahitya Puraskar

Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust, in association with Dogri Sanstha, Jammu also awarded its first Kunwar Viyogi Sahitya Puraskar to young Dogri writer Mr Deepak Kumar for his short stories compilations ‘Keengare Da Rukkh’.

Mr Kumar was awarded a cash prize of Rs 11,000, along with a citation and memento by the Trust’s founder and chairperson Poonam Singh Jamwal.

An annual feature by the Trust and Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, the award has been instituted for upcoming Dogri writers and will be awarded for the first book or the best book in Dogri by a young Indian author, first manuscript/published in Dogri or translation of Dogri in any Indian Language recognised by the Dogri Sanstha.

The books published during the last four years preceding the Award year shall also be considered for the Kunwar Viyogi Sahitya Puraskar.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

On September 10, 2016, the Trust in collaboration with J&K Academy of Arts, Culture & Languages showcased Hindi adaptation of Shakespeare’s famous play, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu.

The play was directed by the very young and talented Aarushi Thakur, who also won the first Prem Jamwal KVMTrust young talent award. Cash prizes were also awarded to five best performers from the play.

Kavi Goshti

As a part of Kunwar Viyogi Utsav, Kavi Goshti was organised at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu. The event was held in collaboration with Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi and J&K Academy of Arts, Culture and Languages.

Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu Mr R.D. Sharma was the chief guest at the event. Sahitya Akademi Convener, Jammu Mr Lalit Mangotra opened the forum by reciting verses from Kunwar Viyogi’s award-winning book ‘Ghar’ and threw light on the poet’s literary journey by recalling instances that shaped the celebrated writer’s literary journey.

The event saw the participation of 14 accomplished Dogri poets from across Jammu, who recited their best compositions during the event besides paying tribute to Kunwar Viyogi ji by reciting verses from ‘Ghar’.

Ghazal Night by Seema Anil Seghal

At the Musical Extravaganza, which was a part of Kunwar Viyogi Utsav, renowned Dogri singer Seema Anil Seghal enthralled the audience with her soulful compositions.

The singer also paid glowing tributes to Kunwar Viyogiji by lending her voice to Viyogiji’s few handpicked poem from his award-winning book Ghar and Sonnets from Pehli Banga.

The event that was held at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu saw a spell-bound audience, who had gathered to hear the mesmerising voice of the singer.
