Kunwar Viyogi Annual Memorial Lecture- 2020

Union Minister Jitendra Singh delivered the first edition of ”Kunwar Viyogi Annual Memorial Lecture” on 20th September, 2020 held in collaboration with Department of English, University of Jammu and Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust. The lecture series, inaugurated during the annual Kunwar Viyogi Utsav- 2020 was attended by University of Jammu Vice Chancellor Manoj K. Dhar and Prof. Monika Sethi, HoD Department of English, University of Jammu. Mr Ayushman Jamwal, who is a senior editor at News18 and also a member of KVM Trust moderated the session.

Speaking on the topic – ”Way Forward Post Abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A in Jammu and Kashmir”, the honourable minister said that terrorism is in its last phase in the region and terrorists on the run are hitting soft targets. He stressed that things are changing for the better each day and hoped for a new beginning from the next season. He added, after a very long gap, there is almost equal distribution of central resources in Jammu and Kashmir divisions.

Referring to his speech in Parliament during the abrogation of Article 370 provisions last year, when he had described it as a miscarriage of history and anomaly of the Constitution, Mr. Singh said that what was supposed to be a temporary feature remained permanent for 70 years, according to a statement issued by the Personnel Ministry.

The Union minister pointed out that by making Dogri an official language, another anomaly was done away with. That people are gradually coming out of slavish, slack and selfish mindset, and becoming part of the new milieu.

In his address, University of Jammu Vice Chancellor Manoj Dhar praised the Union Minister for his passion for growth and development of Jammu and Kashmir and that of Dogri language. He informed that a full-fledged Department of Dogri is functional in the Jammu University and soon a “center of excellence” will be established for promotion of Dogri language, culture and heritage.

About Dr. Jitendra Singh

Dr. Jitendra Singh is the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Office; Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions; Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space. He is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national executive member and was the chief spokesperson for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Before entering the world of politics, Dr. Singh was an accomplished professor of diabetes and endocrinology, a consultant, clinical practitioner, author of eight books, and a newspaper columnist. He is the ex-chairman for the National Scientific Committee Diabetes and the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India.

Born on November 6, 1956, Dr. Singh has authored 8 books including Monograms on Diabetes and World Book Fair “Best Seller”, “Diabetes Made Easy”; Author of Chapters on Diabetes consecutively in around dozen successive editions of API Text Books for Post Graduate Course (Medicine); Syndicated weekly column “Tales of Travesty”, popularly read and regularly published for three decades. He has to his credit over 10,000 published articles in newspapers & journals. Dr. Singh was also awarded with the coveted “Jamna Devi Gian Devi Award for Journalism, Gold Medal for Oration at JIPMER, Puducherry and Outstanding Personality Award in 2009.

An avid reader of biographies, Dr Singh also writes on various topical subjects related Medicine and loves listening to film music from the golden era of 1950s and early 1960s.
